Our Committes

The Network is divided into five main units: the Coordinating Committee, the Terminology Committee, the Newsletter Committee, the Web site Committee, and the Symposium Organizing Committee. The members of each of these committees are elected at one of our meetings for a two-year term.

hautCoordinating Committee

The Coordinating Committee (CC) administers NTE operations. It has five members: president, vice-president, treasurer, secretary and one coordinator at large.

The CC's regular duties are to prepare the agenda for meetings, manage requests for information, maintain membership lists, administer the NTE's funds, and generally coordinate activities; other responsibilities are short-, medium- and long-term planning, and public relations.

hautTerminology Committee

This team revises the terminology files and briefs prepared by NTE members. This team is responsible for ensuring that the final product, the Recommandations terminologiques, is consistent with the Protocole de rédaction de la fiche définitive, that definitions, contexts and explanation contain no contradictions, are well expressed, and so on. It is also responsible for planning terminological activities, updating guides (Guide de préparation d'une fiche de travail and Protocole de rédaction de la fiche définitive), and all aspects of the NTE's terminology work.

Committee members also work with another volunteer responsible for updating the Word Bank. The Word Bank is the stock of terms that members take as their starting point for terminology briefs. This is the person to whom you can send terms you would like the NTE to study. Ideally, you should include the context in which you found the term, or a short explanation of the problem it presents, the results of your preliminary research and your proposals or suggestions (where appropriate). On the basis of this information, a more complete file will be built up and the term will be added to the Word Bank for study by a member or members.

hautNewsletter Committee

The Newsletter Committee normally consists of two people. They collect articles sent in by members of the NTE and from time to time produce a newsletter.

hautWeb Site Committee

The Web Site Committee is made up of two or three members. Initially given the task of setting up the NTE's Web site, the committee is now responsible for updating it and adding pages.

hautSymposium Organizing Committee

This is not a permanent committee. It is set up every two years, and consists of three or four people whose task it is to organize the biennial symposium. Its responsibilites include reserving hotel and meeting rooms, deciding on a program, finding speakers, sending invitations and follow-up materials to members, and generally coordinating all aspects of the symposium (kits, site plans, reception, etc.).
